Status Definition

  • Each metric status indicator is associated with an individual metric (e.g. Daily Attendance Rate).
  • If a metric meets the ”green” status threshold, it will have a “green” (rounded) status on the Overview page.
  • If a metric meets the “red” status threshold, it will have a “red” (rectangular) status on the Overview page as well.
  • Upon hover-over, the tool tip displays the metric name, description and status.

Academic Dashboard Metric Category

  • The Overview section displays container-level metrics in the following categories: Attendance and Discipline, State Assessments, Local Assessments, Grades and Credits, Advanced Academics (secondary only) and College and Career Readiness (secondary only).
  • Student performance on all metrics within the category is indicated by the 'tic tacs'.
  • Users can navigate to detailed data for each metric by clicking on the relevant category name or 'tic tac'.

Business Rules

  • Descriptions of each indicator are predefined based on the metric description.
  • Metric category shall display regardless of the presence or absence of data for each.
  • The presence or absence of a 'tictac' reflects the availability of metric data for the specific student.
  • Metric categories are predefined and cannot be added or deleted as a result of data being loaded.

Data Anomalies

Frequency of Uploading Data

The metric computation implementation may vary depending on the periodicity of loading the data. For example, a daily load requires that you load data for only a single day (i.e., the last instructional day). Less frequent uploads require that you load data for each day since the date of the last load. For some metrics, failure to load daily will result in outdated data displayed in the Dashboards. It is recommended that LEAs set up the DTU to run daily in order to maintain the most up-to-date information in the Dashboards.

Implementation Considerations

Student Identity

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) uses the TSDS Unique ID system to provide a unique student identifier to every student across the state.

Local education agencies (LEAs), including Texas school districts and open-enrollment charter schools, use Unique ID numbers to load their student information to the TSDS Education Data Warehouse (EDW). Each student will have a single unique identifier for his or her entire career within the Texas educational system (from early education programs through the twelfth grade).  Individuals will retain the same unique identifier even if they leave the Texas education system and return years later or transition from being a student to a staff member.

All LEAs must use have UIDs for their students to submit data to TSDS.
